The University of Coimbra is home to more than 1,000 new foreign students per year. International students come mainly from Portuguese speaking countries (lusophony). The University commissioned an institutional video for the House of Lusophony – the international students lounge – that would portray the geographical provenience of the students and the global bridges that they establish when coming together in Coimbra. The video is based on real data for 2011/2012 and uses the identity created by FBA for the House of Lusophony. Voice-over script done by Ideias Concertadas.
The animation runs entirely in Processing, interpolating between the orthographic and stereographic world projections. The metaphorical connections across the globe were created with the following in mind: if a student from A attended the same Degree with a student from B, then a connection between A and B is established.
